This is an introductory training to play therapy reviewing the history of play therapy, types of populations and diagnosis play therapy can be used with. Different theoretical models in play therapy will be introduced such as Adlerian, Jungian, and other play therapy theories. Phases of play therapy, themes in play therapy and how to write play therapy notes will be reviewed. In addition, how to market play therapy to parents and other professionals. This qualifies as a Phase I training for the RPT credential through the Association for Play Therapy.
- Play Therapists will be able to discuss the history of play therapy.
- Play Therapists will be able to review three different play therapy theoretical models.
- Play Therapists will be able to demonstrate play therapy themes in children’s play.
- Play therapists will be able to review techniques in writing play therapy notes.

About the presenter:
Sheri Mitschelen, LCSW, RPT/S is Owner and Clinical Director of Crossroads Family Counseling Center, LLC in Fairfax, VA. Sheri has over 30 years of experience working with children, Adolescents and families specializing in working with children with emotional regulation and attachment issues.
She has had post graduate training in Family Therapy, Child and Infant Mental Health, Play Therapy, and Adoption Competency. Sheri is an Adjunct Faculty member at George Mason University School of Social Work and Virginia Tech. Marriage and Family Therapy Program. She has done numerous play therapy presentations in the area and at the Association for Play Therapy annual conference.
