Often children come to play therapy struggling with anxiety and/or anger. Participants will learn techniques to help children manage their anxiety and anger in the play room as well as learn directive techniques to teach coping skills to children who get emotionally dysregulated. Sensory issues will be addressed in how this impacts emotional regulation. Ways to engage the family/ Guardians in treatment will be discussed as well as strategies they can use with their child at home. Come prepared to try out many of the techniques that will be demonstrated!
- Participants will identify three directives play therapy interventions that can be used to treat anxiety.
- Participants will demonstrate three directives play therapy interventions that can be used to treat anger.
- Participants will discuss three play therapy strategies to assist families in helping their children manage anxiety and anger.

About the presenter:
Sheri Mitschelen, LCSW, RPT/S is Owner and Clinical Director of Crossroads Family Counseling Center, LLC in Fairfax, VA. Sheri has over 30 years of experience working with children, Adolescents and families specializing in working with children with emotional regulation and attachment issues.
She has had post graduate training in Family Therapy, Child and Infant Mental Health, Play Therapy, and Adoption Competency. Sheri is an Adjunct Faculty member at George Mason University School of Social Work and Virginia Tech. Marriage and Family Therapy Program. She has done numerous play therapy presentations in the area and at the Association for Play Therapy annual conference.
