This experiential workshop will introduce participants to different types of yoga, breathing, and mindfulness exercises that can be used to enrich sessions for both play therapists and clients. Opportunities to practice, create and play will be a part of the workshop so participants can identify play therapy techniques that will be the most effective to meet client’s needs. Play Therapy participants will leave with an understanding of ways to incorporate multiple techniques into their sessions and how to teach to parents/caregivers. Plan to wear comfortable clothes to move in!
- Participants will learn yoga and mindfulness techniques to aid in their own self-care and self-awareness during and after play therapy sessions.
- Participants will learn specific yoga techniques to incorporate into play therapy sessions with clients.
- Participants will learn how to identify and use yoga techniques in play therapy sessions based on client need (i.e. anxiety, self-regulation).
- Participants will learn how to teach techniques to parents and caregivers to help their child.

About the presenter:
Sheri Mitschelen, LCSW, RPT/S is Owner and Clinical Director of Crossroads Family Counseling Center, LLC in Fairfax, VA. Sheri has over 25 years of experience working with children, Adolescents and families specializing in working with children with emotional regulation and attachment issues.
She has had post graduate training in Family Therapy, Child and Infant Mental Health, Play Therapy, and Adoption Competency. Sheri is an Adjunct Faculty member at George Mason University School of Social Work and Virginia Tech. Marriage and Family Therapy Program. She has done numerous play therapy presentations in the area and at the Association for Play Therapy annual conference.
Holly Martinson, M.Ed., RYT-200 is the owner of Patient Minds LLC in Falls Church, VA. She has over 18 years of experience in the field of education, including Special Education, ESOL, and Early Intervention.
Since transitioning away from the public-school setting, Holly is now blending her education experience with her passion for yoga. Through private yoga sessions, Holly provides children & teens tools for self-regulation as well as cultivating joy for practicing yoga and mindfulness.
