Trauma Resilient Interventions
Almost half of the nation’s children have experienced at least one or more types of serious childhood trauma, according to the National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH). This growing statistic requires mental health professionals to be better informed and skilled at serving trauma survivors, using best practice interventions. Trauma is a sensory experience that impacts the mind and body, therefore treatment must include sensory based interventions to facilitate the healing process. This experiential play therapy workshop will provide an overview of how trauma impacts the mind and body, and why the use of sensory based interventions are needed to best support trauma survivors. Participants will get a chance to interact, play, and have fun as we practice sensory-based interventions to use with child and adolescent trauma survivors.
- Workshop participants will learn three ways trauma impacts the mind and body
- Workshop participants will be able to identify three benefits of using sensory based interventions to address trauma symptoms in play therapy
- Workshop participants will learn and practice at least three sensory-based play therapy interventions to use with child and adolescent trauma survivors
