Sand Tray Play Therapy 101
This is an introductory training for therapists who are new to using a sandtray in play therapy or who want to further their skills in using the sandtray. Both directive and non-directive sand trays will be demonstrated and participants will have the opportunity to create individual and group sand trays.
- Understand the origin and theory of sandtray play therapy.
- Identify common themes in the sandtray play therapy.
- Learn 2 directive interventions to use with clients in sandtray play therapy.

Sheri Mitschelen, LCSW, RPT-S Owner and Director of Crossroads Family Counseling Center, LLC and Crossroads Family and Play Institute in Fairfax, VA. Sheri has over 25 year of clinical experience and is an Adjunct Faculty member at Virginia Tech. Marriage and Family Therapy program teaching Play therapy. She has also presented on play therapy topics for the University of Maryland Continuing Education program, The Northern Virginia Play Therapy Association and the Association for Play Therapy annual conference.
